Doctrine on the Incarnation
The Emperor
EFFECTS
this Resolution
The purpose of the incarnation of Christ. God sent his own Son down as a ransom for man's sins. The incarnation was to redeem fallen mankind. After Satan's rebellion against God where Satan was cast into hell, after God's creation of the world, God foresaw the fall of man. GOD, sitting on His throne, saw Satan flying towards this world, then newly created: showed him to the Son, who sat at His right hand; foretold the success of Satan in perverting mankind; cleared His own justice and wisdom from all imputation, having created man free, and able enough to have withstood his tempter; yet declared His purpose of grace towards him, in regard he fell not of his own malice, as did Satan, but by him seduced.
The Son of God rendered praise to His Father for the manifestation of His gracious purpose towards man; but God again declared that grace cannot be extended towards man without the satisfaction of Divine justice. Man had offended the majesty of God by aspiring to Godhead, and, therefore, with all his progeny, devoted to death, must die, unless some one could be found sufficient to answer for his offense, and undergo his punishment. The Son of God freely offered Himself a ransom for man: The Father accepted Him, ordains His incarnation, pronounced His exaltation above all names in heaven and earth; commands all the angels to adore Him. They obey, and by hymning to their harps in full quire, celebrate the Father and the Son.
Thus, when the fullness of time had come, Christ became incarnate in this world. He began his ministry of truth and friendship, offering eternal unity and love of God. So to fulfill mission, he allowed himself to be crucified; thus the greatest of all men, the consubstantial Son of God, paid for man's sin, while being the personification of truth and God's infinite love for His children in all His wisdom. He allowed himself to be crucified, answering for the sin of man, so he should be saved.
