Convention of Founders
The Existence of God
The Emperor
EFFECTS
this Resolution
This law establishes the basic tenets of the existence of God.
Be it resolved by the Emperor and the Convention of Founders of the Holy Seat as follows:
The existence of God consists of reason and faith.
The reasoned existence of God consists of
- The cosmology of God;
- The ontology of God; and
- The destiny to God.
The faith having to do with the existence of God consists of
- Scripture;
- Tradition; and
- Knowability.
Cosmology of God. God is—
- the self-sufficient and self-explanatory cause or ground of being and activity
- to which all the logical phenomena of the universe may be ultimately referred.
Cosmological Factors of God in Brief. God is—
- the First Cause;
- the intelligent Designer;
- the Supreme Moral Ruler; and
- the Source of all mankind's religion.
Cosmological Factors of God in Full.
First Cause.
- God is the first unmoved Mover.
- God is the First self-existent and self-sufficient Cause.
- God is the non-contingent, self-existent Being.
- God is an infinitely perfect Being.
Intelligent Designer.
- God is the supramundane, intelligent Designer.
- God is the supreme Former of Beauty.
- God is the First Cause of spirituality, i.e., intelligence and free will. God is personal, infinitely wise, and acts freely.
Supreme Moral Ruler.
- God is the supreme Lawgiver of the moral law of conscience.
Source of all mankind's religion.
- He is the one whom all men seek to worship.
Ontology of God. God is
- the greatest Being that can be thought of,
- the Infinity to be conceived of by the mind that exists outside of and beyond it.
Teleology of God. God is the underlying source of happiness or glory that men seek to attain through all their earthly conduct. He supernaturally calls every man to seek Him across creation.
God is the One who gave man his intellect and free will.
God endows men with the faculty to use their intellect and free will rightly to see Him.
God gives every person a supernatural calling to seek Him and attain communion with him. God offers thus communion to all men.
God is distinct from matter and the human mind. He is distinct from the universe and the human intellect. He is a Person. God is spirit. His throne is in Heavenly Paradise, which is not of this universe or from man's mind.
